Fall/Winter League Play – Developmental/Competitive
The focus of the Fall/Winter league play is primary development with a higher competitive focus as the age levels progress.
7/8 Grade
Emphasis is on team work in a fully competitive environment and court presence development.
General League Play Rules:
- NYS High School Rules
- No shot clock – 10 second Back Court Rule in effect
- No playing minimum at 7th-8th grade level
5/6 Grade
Emphasis is on team work in a less competitive environment and half-court presence development.
General League Play Rules:
- The 4 minute playing rule at the 5th-6th grade level is in effect. This means each player must play at least 4 consecutive minutes (and sit 4 consecutive minutes) in each half.
- 3 Point Shots in effect for 5th-6th
- 5th-6th grade level pressing in the backcourt is allowed only in the last minute of each half and overtime
3/4 Grade
Emphasis is on player development
General League Play Rules:
- The intermediate basketball (28.5) should be used for all games.
- The 4 minute playing rule at the 3rd/4th/grade level is in effect. This means each player must play at least 4 consecutive minutes ( and sit 4 consecutive minutes) in each half.
- Man-to-man defense only inside 3 point line (no zone defenses).
- Team has 12 seconds to break the defensive zone when bringing the ball up court.
- When ball is passed outside of the 3 point area, the offensive team has 5 seconds to re-enter the ball into the offensive area.
- Full court press allowed last minute of game and overtime.
- No 3 point shots for 3rd/4th
